It is designed to strengthen the understanding of Arabic morphology, especially morphsyntactic processes. Memorization through implementation of exercises allows students to recognize the verbal constructions. This course is an introductory course in rhetoric (Balaghah) where students are given a taste of the beauty and depth of the Arabic language. Apart from various extracts from poems, extensive discussions also take place regarding certain Quranic verses which enhances the understanding of the glorious Qurān. Practical exercises help the student to enhance their expression in the Arabic language. Rhetoric is divided into three sub-sciences; speech (ilm al-bayān), semantics (ilm al-ma’ānī), and literary embellishment (ilm al-badi’). The course concludes with the methodology of analogical comparison (Qiyaas). The instructor will go through the new terminologies while providing a detailed commentary as well as discussing each of the key concepts with the students to ensure they grasped the material correctly. This course not only gives a complete overview of the Islamic laws of inheritance but reinforces the principles by providing multiple examples for students to apply the laws. Students learn the complex financial calculation process through which the estate of the deceased is divided, according to a set formula, among his or her surviving parents, children, spouse, and siblings.
