How close to sunrise can Fajr be prayed? If I have not prayed Fajr yet and there are just two minutes
left until sunrise time, should I pray in this situation or wait until sunrise has passed, then do qadha?
If there are two minutes left before sunrise and a person starts his Salah and finishes before the sun rises, then according to everyone this persons Salah is valid. But if a person started their Salah before sunrise and ended during or after sunrise, then according to the most preferred view in the Hanafi Mathhab, the Salah will be terminated and will have to be repeated after sunrise.
Regarding this issue, if there’s such a person who delays Fajr till sunrise due to laziness and it’s feared that if they’re prevented then they’ll leave praying Fajr altogether, then such a person should not be prevented, rather he should pray his Fajr and finish at least one rakaat before the sunrise. This is due to the fact that some fuqahaa have considered this permissible.
It has been reported from Abu Huraira(RA) that Allah’s Messenger (Saw) said, “If anyone caught a rak’a of the Morning (Fajr) Prayer before sunrise, he has caught the Morning (Fajr) Prayer; and if anyone caught a rak’a of the afternoon (Asr) prayer before sunset, he has observed the afternoon (Asr) prayer.
